Frequently Asked Questions

Who do I contact if I need help?
Please contact our National Team with any questions - email: cert@24-7youthwork.nz.
ASSESSMENT INFORMATION
How long will each assessment take me?
Assessments 1, 7, 8 & 9 will take approximately 2-3 hours each. We provide the resources you will need so we don't anticipate a need for your own research. However, you will need to look into some history for the timeline required in Assessment #7.
Assessment #9 will take more planning as you have to write up an event you have been a part of. You don’t have to do an event specifically for this assessment, just something you have been involved with over the last few months.
Assessment #2 is an online module which takes approximately 45 minutes.
Remember this is part of your weekly 10 paid hours, so setting aside time to do it is crucial.
Will the certificate be distance learning or will I be expected to attend classes?
Both! You will attend a Block Course at the end of May to complete Assessments 2 - 4 and the remaining assessments will be completed via Distance Study. In other years, the Block Course has been held at the end of the year, but we are bringing it forward to equip you with essential foundational knowledge as you establish yourself in your role.
How are the papers assessed?
Our Assessor’s Schedule is included with each Trainee Assessment, check this to see what information is being asked for. We work with external Assessors who are familiar with our church and school relationships and respecting the balance of a faith-based organisation being invited into a secular environment.
What does it mean if I am asked to do a re-submit?
If you receive a notification for a resubmit - this doesn't mean you have failed, it is just the Assessor needs more information to tick this question off against the Unit Standard. It might be that you need to add a little more content, clarify evidence or statements, or add an extra example. Once you have read this, you will need to re-upload your assessment with the Assessor’s comments AND your changes. The re-work will come with a due date for re-submitting to the Assessor.
What happens if I don't complete an assessment?
To complete the qualification and be awarded your certificate you MUST complete AND pass all of the assessments by 09 December 2025. If you do not submit an assessment and you do not complete the qualification we will be charging you an automatic non-completion fee of $360 plus GST.
What happens if I need an extension?
You are being paid to do this qualification as part of your 10 hours, so please work in with your Team Leader and school contact to see if this can be your first option. However, if something has changed or happened unexpectedly and you need an extension, the process is:
- An email to the National Director (aimee@24-7youthwork.nz), the National Administrator (cert@24-7youthwork.nz) and cc your Team Leader
- This must be received no later than 7 days before the due date
The easiest thing to do is put the time aside frequently and stick to it - the assessment time is important, as this Certificate is a network requirement.
BLOCK COURSE INFORMATION
When and where are the 3-day Block Courses being held?
Auckland: Monday 26 - Wednesday 28 May 2025. Windsor Park Baptist Church, 550 East Coast Roadm mairangi Bay, Auckland
Christchurch: Wednesday 28 - Friday 30 May 2025, St Barnabas Anglican Church, 8 Tui Street, Fendalton
Each day runs from 8.30am – 4.30pm. Please arrange to be on site for these hours.
What is included at the Block Course?
Each day you will have Trainers come and present their specialist topic. You will have time during the day to complete your assessments, with the view of handing them in at the end of each day.
We are well-known for our quality catering at 24-7YW events! Over the three days, you will be catered for your morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
Hard copies of the Youth Worker's Handbook and the Code of Ethics booklet will be available to assist you in your assessments at the Block Course.
What is NOT included at Block Course?
Accommodation, travel, breakfast and dinner are not covered in the cost of the Block Course. If you are from outside Auckland or Christchurch you will need to find your own accommodation. We recommend you contact your Regional Coordinator to ask if a billet can be organised. It would be a good idea to ensure this is sorted now!
What do you need to bring for the Block Course?
- Laptop: The assessments are all done online so you will need to bring a laptop to do your work (please arrange to borrow one for three days if you do not have one)
- Laptop charger
- Water Bottle (hydration is helpful!)
- Your copy of the Youth Worker's Handbook
- Your copy of the Code of Ethics
What if you can't make it to the Block Course?
The Block Course is compulsory. If, for example, you live in Christchurch and can't make the Christchurch Block Course dates, you can make your own flight arrangements and attend the Auckland Block Course or vice versa. We don't mind which Block Course you attend, as long as you attend one!
Please prioritise the Block Course now by clearing your diary of commitments, and applying for annual leave from any other jobs you might hold.
When will I receive my Certificate?
Depending on when you completed your last paper some certificates will be posted to your local settings from late December 2025. Some certificates will be posted in January or February 2026.
Study Support
What support is available during my study?
